Welcome!

Thanks for visiting my blog! Here I hope to share some of the things that come from my head to my hand to paper, and the stories behind it all.

King Tide

I love this little drawing.  It is very small.  It was inspired by a picture a friend of mine took along the Benicia waterline after a king tide.
Arts Benicia 2015 Auction Donation

Mike Kendall...the mayor of the Benicia aresenal!  I was proud that this donation was purchased by a reputable local collector.  Mike was so happy I chose him to draw!  I might have to do a different local artist each year from now on!
Oil Pastels

This past year, I started teaching adult classes using oil pastels.  These are some of the samples I made with my students.  I have been really enjoying getting more into this medium!

A Student Project

I like to show off the work of my middle school kids sometimes!  Last year, they proudly reproduced, with a grid enlarging method, this image of Disney princesses.  We are actually working on two new ones now.  I said no more princesses!  We did a similar one to this the year before!

Some Commissions from 2015

I have been behind on my posts!  Here are a few commissions from this last year.  Again, when it's a commission, there is little personal interpretation.  I think I made the clients happy!

Bryan.  Sadly, Bryan passed away too young.  A friend of his mother's asked me to do this drawing for her.

Each year, I donate something to the BMS auction.  This year, it was a caricature of friends.  The parents of one of these girls purchased it.  They loved it!

This portrait was purchased by one of my students who wanted to give her parents a special anniversary gift.  I was honored to work for one of my kids!  And impressed that she wanted to spend her money on art for her parents!

This one is also from a school auction, but from a couple of years ago.  It was purchased by students as well!  These girls rode horses and wanted a portrait of their favorite horse.  The position is their choice. Again, honored when kids want to spend their money on art!

Caricatures

At a co-workers request, I started doing some caricatures.  I started with our Benicia Middle School principal, Mike Minahen, then also did the lovely Cathy Wright, our BMS drama teacher.  All of this lead to me teaching a caricature class to my adult Arts Benicia students!

Done for the kids' table at a wedding...caricatures of the bride and groom! This will be used as a coloring page.

Arts Benicia Adult Classes

I wanted to share some of my adult student work!  I am so proud of my beginning drawers and the challenges they take on.  This is a melange of photos from different classes including portrait drawing, life drawing, cartooning and caricatures.

KFOG Live from the Archives 21 Entry

This summer, I am taking a stab at the KFOG Live from the Archives cover art contest.  I just submitted...we will see what happens!

I didn't get picked, but it was fun to try!  The top ten were all in color and the majority were done with computer graphics.

Buckets

Buckets is in the process of being created, and this is the end of phase one.  This is an example of my experimentation with combining colored pencil and graphite.  Color to come in phase two!

Here is the final product.  I like the lamp and table the best! This was just selected to be in the Falkirk Fall juried show in San Rafael starting in September!

BEF Parade of Pigs for Kids 2013-14

This year, I made a companion for Frida Pig...Diego Pig!  He was a blast to make, and the same person that bought Frida also purchased Diego, so they live side by side now!

Happy Holidays 2013

I realize I forgot to post this past year's holiday card! It is my version of a sock kitty, based on my little Frida girl.  Happy Christmas in July!

Mayhem

Trouble on the potato abacus! This one was shown at Arts Benicia's "Art of a Community" and is currently in a juried show at the Falkirk Cultural Center in San Rafael.
